Washington County Deputy Exposed to Fentanyl at Crash Scene on I-64, Makes Full Recovery

NASHVILLE – A Washington County Sheriff’s deputy was recently exposed to fentanyl while on the scene of a two vehicle injury accident at mile marker 46 on I-64.

According to the sheriff’s office, just before 10 p.m. on June 1, the deputy was helping EMS free the injured driver when he found a bag of fentanyl powder on the door.

The deputy slipped on debris causing him to be exposed to fentanyl. The deputy gave himself two doses of Narcan. EMS took the deputy to Washington County Hospital where he was treated for exposure to fentanyl and made a full recovery.

The suspect, 41-year-old Tyler G. Weis of Du Quoin, was cited for three counts of Possession of a Controlled Substance, one count DUI drug, and one count Driving while License Revoked.
