ISP Identifies Man Killed in Officer-involved Shooting in Williamson County

MARION – Illinois State Police Monday released the name of the man who died in a officer-involved shooting in Williamson County Friday morning.

It’s 43-year-old Jesse Shelton of Marion.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 23000 block of Drake Road after getting a 911 call about Shelton forcing his way inside a home. A woman confronted him. Shelton fled into the woods.

Deputies and a sheriff’s K9 searched for Shelton which led them through the woods to another home on Pleasant Valley Road. Shelton made his way into that home. Shelton produced a gun and directed it toward deputies. A deputy fired his duty weapon striking Shelton. He died.

The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office asked Illinois State Police to help with the investigation.
