MARION – A deadly shooting involving a Williamson County Sheriff’s deputy is under investigation.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies responded to the 23000 block of Drake Road just before 10 Friday morning after getting a 911 call about a male suspect forcing his way inside a home. A woman confronted him. The man fled into the woods.
Deputies and a sheriff’s K9 searched for the man which led them through the woods to another home on Pleasant Valley Road. They found a man matching the description of the suspect on Drake Road. He made his way into the second home. The man produced a gun and directed it toward deputies. A deputy fired his duty weapon striking the man. He died. His name is not being released until family members are notified.
The Williamson County Sheriff’s Office requested assistance from the Illinois State Police with the investigation.
