CARTERVILLE – The Carterville Fire Department says lightning recently damaged the storm siren at Cannon Park and is working with a vendor to replace it with a new siren as soon as possible.
Temporary repairs have been made to the siren to restore limited function. It has been rewired to operate at a reduced volume and is currently unable to rotate. While it will still activate during emergency weather conditions, its range and effectiveness are temporarily reduced according to the fire department.
