Man Faces Gun Charges after Disturbance in Carbondale

CARBONDALE – A man is facing gun-related charges after Carbondale Police responded to a report of a disturbance in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane Wednesday night.

Police say the suspect, 26-year-old Marques A. Estes of Mableton, GA, was involved in a physical dispute with a known acquaintance. When police found Estes, they learned he had a gun in his possession. Estes resisted an attempt by the police to arrest him. Police arrested him without any further incident and found the gun in his possession during the arrest.

Police determined the firearm was illegally converted to be capable of firing at a fully automatic capacity. Estes was arrested for Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon by a Felon and Resisting or Obstructing a Peace Officer. Estes was booked into the Jackson County Jail pending a detention hearing.
