Man Charged after WCSO Recovers Stolen Vehicles in Multi-County Crime Spree

MARION – A man is facing multiple charges after the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office recovered five stolen vehicles during his 10-day multi-county crime spree.

The sheriff’s office responded on April 29 to a report of a stolen vehicle in Whiteash. Deputies found that the suspect had removed a battery from the vehicle and used it to steal another vehicle. Deputies began looking for the vehicle and found it going east on Route 13 in Marion. The vehicle was stopped and the driver, Wesley J. New, was taken into custody and cited for Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle, Driving While License Suspended and No Valid Driver’s License. He was booked into the Williamson County Jail.

Sheriff’s investigators were able to determine that earlier in the day, New had stolen a vehicle out of Colp and used it to get to Whiteash where he abandoned it, before stealing the next vehicle. He was then issued citations for two counts of theft. Due to the SAFE-T Act, New was released from jail on April 30.

Then on the morning of May 9, deputies responded to the 7000 block of Propeller Point Lane in Carbondale for a report of two stolen vehicles.

The victim reported their Ford F-150, Jeep Cherokee, chainsaws, and other items stolen. The Jeep Cherokee was recovered a short time later near the home.

That night, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office recovered the stolen Ford F-150 in front of a home in Belle Rive. At the same time, a Belle Rive citizen reported a motorcycle stolen from their home.

Then during the early morning hours of May 10, deputies responded to Cambria Park in reference to a report of a male sleeping underneath a motorcycle in the parking lot.

Upon arrival, the sleeping male was identified as New. The motorcycle New was sleeping under was confirmed to be the stolen motorcycle from Belle Rive.

During the investigation, sheriff’s detectives were able to identify New as the suspect in the stolen Ford F-150 and Jeep Cherokee.

New was charged with Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle (Motorcycle), Theft over $10,000 but less than $100,000 (Ford F-150), Theft over $500 but less than $10,000, Burglary over $500, Theft over $500 but less than $10,000, Theft over $500 but less than $10,000 and Violation of Pre-trial Release.

New was booked into the Williamson County Jail.
