REIDLAND, KY – A Woodlawn woman has been cited with 111 counts of Inhumane Treatment of Animals in connection with a puppy mill investigation in western Kentucky.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, an investigation into an alleged “puppy mill” at the closed Reidland Veterinary Clinic on Reidland Road began Friday. Deputies found a large number of dogs there living in what appeared to be less than ideal conditions.
Deputies got a search warrant for the building and found 124 dogs. In the majority of the building, there was no ventilation, no electricity, and no heating or air. Most of the dogs were on carpet and congregating in feces and urine.
During the investigation, detectives learned that 66-year-old Suzanne Alt of Woodlawn was renting the building. After speaking with Alt, detectives also learned that she had been under investigation in Illinois related to these same dogs. She was cited to court for her offenses.
The sheriff’s animal cruelty investigator is investigating this incident in conjunction with McCracken County Animal Control.
