Man Charged after Biting Officer during I-24 Crash Response in Metropolis

METROPOLIS – A man was charged with Aggravated Battery and Resisting Arrest following a multi-vehicle injury crash Thursday on I-24 near the Ohio River in Metropolis according to Metropolis Police.

Police say while on the ramp to go eastbound, a pickup truck, driven by 77-year-old Houston R. Henley of Metropolis, was blocking the ramp sideways as he was attempting to turn around and go the wrong way up the ramp. Police blocked Henley in and he refused to move in order for police to get through. Henley accelerated striking an officer who was in front of the truck. Henley tried to go the wrong way but got blocked by traffic. Henley refused to cooperate with the officer. As Henley was getting out of his truck, he bit the officer on the arm.

Henley was then arrested and charged. He was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital and released there with a notice to appear.
