Robert Euell “Bob” Scott

MCLEANSBORO – Robert Euell “Bob” Scott, 95, of McLeansboro, IL, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Silver Foxes Senior Living and Rehabilitation in McLeansboro. He was born on September 6, 1929, in Broughton, IL, to George and Grace (Faries) Scott. On October 20, 1954, he married Roberta Ann (Hardin) Scott, who preceded him in death on June 2, 2006.

Bob served his country as an MP in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict where he was stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. He was a member of the McLeansboro VFW. He was a retired factory worker for Whirlpool in Evansville, IN, where he built air conditioners and refrigerators for 30 years. He used to ride with his friends and coworkers over to Evansville and arrive an hour early so they could drink coffee and read the newspaper before their shift. As a young man, he trained horses. His first job was training thoroughbreds for the Governor John Stelle. He loved music and quail hunting. He was involved in local politics, having served 7 terms as an alderman, and he even ran for mayor. At the age of 69, he was led to the Lord by his pastor, Ken Cook, Sr., and friend, Bob Brockett. He became a man of God who loved his church, the First General Baptist Church of McLeansboro. Bob was a family man who loved his kids, grandkids and great grandkids, and will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his daughter, Tarri Sutton of McLeansboro; son, Mark (wife Anita) Scott of McLeansboro; grandchildren, Sarah Scott and Matt Scott; great-grandchildren Darilyn Prince and Westyn Welch; and his brother-in-law and best friend, W.H. “Fuss” Gray of Dale, IL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Roberta Scott; granddaughter, Autumn Rae Sutton; son-in-law, Steve Sutton; one brother and six sisters.

Funeral services for Robert “Bob” Scott will be held on Friday, May 2, 2025, at 1 p.m., at the First General Baptist Church in McLeansboro with Reverend Dr. Ken Cook officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service on Friday, and on Thursday, May 1, 2025, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the church. Interment will take place immediately following the funeral service on Friday, May 2, 2025, at Gholson Cemetery in Broughton, IL, with graveside military honors provided by the McLeansboro American Legion Post #106 and Illinois Army National Guard Military Funeral Honors Team of Marion, IL.
