Two Safely Rescued from Mt. Vernon Water Tower Following Scaffolding Collapse

MT. VERNON – Mt. Vernon firefighters were called out just after 11 Saturday morning to the area of 19th Street and Waterworks Road regarding someone hanging from a water tower.

According to the fire department, two people were suspended 135 to 150 feet above the ground. The incident happened following an apparent equipment malfunction that caused a scaffolding collapse while the individuals were working on the water tower.

A rescue team was called in to help. Workers used tag lines to help stabilize the scaffolding which later allowed them to repair the motor and safely come down to the ground.

The fire department says further details about the individuals and the cause of the equipment failure are currently under investigation.
