Lane Reductions on I-57/64 and Illinois 15 in Mt. Vernon Begin Monday

MT. VERNON – IDOT says road construction on a half-mile stretch of I-57/64 and Illinois 15 in Mt. Vernon will require lane reductions starting Monday, weather permitting.

Construction will begin at the I-57/64 interchange with Illinois 15 on the west side of Mt. Vernon. Improvements will extend along Illinois 15 from Potomac Boulevard/45th Street to 44th Street.

This work is part of a $38.7 million project to reconstruct the I-57/64 and Illinois 15 interchange into a diverging diamond design. The project also includes replacement of the Illinois 15 bridge over I-57 and upgrades to associated ramps.

The project will be completed in multiple stages with changing traffic patterns, which will be announced ahead of time. Work is expected to be completed over two construction seasons.

Emergency vehicles will be allowed through the work zone as quickly as possible.
