Two Charged in Weekend Shooting in Carbondale

CARBONDALE – A Carterville man and a juvenile male have been charged in connection with a Saturday night shooting in Carbondale.

Carbondale Police say 18-year-old Tyler S. Grob is charged with Obstructing Justice and is being held in the Jackson County Jail awaiting a detention hearing. A juvenile male with Grob was arrested for Aggravated Unlawful Use of Weapons and is lodged in a juvenile detention facility.

Police responded to the area of North Springer and West High Streets around 9:50 p.m. after a caller reported shots fired in the area. Several buildings had been struck by gunfire. It was reported that a dark sedan also fled the area after the gunshots.

Then around 10:15 p.m., police learned a male juvenile was at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. Officers were able to identify the vehicle that the victim had been in when he was shot. Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies later located the vehicle in Carterville.

Grob was driving the car at the time the victim was shot. He was then arrested, charged and taken to jail.

The investigation revealed that a juvenile male in Grob’s vehicle fired a handgun at unknown individuals during this incident on North Springer and West High Streets. Unknown individuals exchanged gunfire with the juvenile in Grob’s vehicle, striking the occupant who was dropped off at the hospital. Officers sought and were granted an arrest warrant for the juvenile who fired shots from Grob’s vehicle. Officers located the juvenile and arrested him for the weapons charge in DeSoto Sunday morning.
