Murphysboro Man Gets 13 Years in Prison for Aggravated Robbery, Burglary

MURPHYSBORO – The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office announced Thursday that 22-year-old Justin Macak of Murphysboro pleaded guilty to Aggravated Robbery, Burglary, and multiple misdemeanor offenses and was sentenced to a total of 13 years in prison.

On March 16 of this year, the Murphysboro Police Department was sent to 2044 Rainbow Drive in Murphysboro in reference to a burglary of a motor vehicle. Officers learned that the reporting party saw two individuals, one being a male, wearing an orange and brown hoodie with a backpack and using a flashlight, looking through a 2014 Dodge vehicle. The owner of the vehicle confirmed he was missing several items, including his wallet and debit card. One of the suspects was located traveling North on foot and was identified as Macak.

It was discovered that Macak had active Jackson County warrants and was subsequently arrested. Officers conducted a search of Macak’s person and belongings, which revealed the wallet and debit card inside the backpack. He was then connected to an earlier robbery that occurred on Feb. 29 of this year.

On Feb. 29 of this year, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to 334 Flanigan Road in Murphysboro in reference to a robbery of a Domino’s delivery driver.

Upon arrival, deputies learned that two armed men approached the victim and robbed her of the food and delivery bag. One individual, Macak, was armed with a construction level while the other wielded a hammer. After Macak was arrested, deputies took possession of his phone and located evidence of the delivery order that had not been paid, as well as text messages indicating his plan to rob the delivery driver. Macak was also identified by several different people as a participant in the robbery.

The investigations were led by the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office and the Murphysboro Police Department.
