Dallas Dean Nelson

BLAIRSVILLE – Dallas Dean Nelson, 83, of Blairsville, IL, passed away on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home in Blairsville. Dallas was born on March 19, 1941, in Barnhill, IL, to Gifford & Eunice (Hays) Nelson. On November 8, 1962, he married Linda (Sanders) Nelson, who survives.

Dallas worked for the City of Carmi as an electrician and utility lineman. He was a member of the North American Border Collies Association. He raised border collies and ran border collie trials for several years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching Westerns on television, and solving various types of puzzles.

Dallas is survived by his wife Linda Nelson of Blairsville, a daughter Janice Crow (and husband Robert) of McLeansboro, IL; 2 sons Kevin Nelson (and wife Angi) of Enfield, IL and Mike Nelson of Springerton, IL; 5 grandchildren Rachel Moake (and husband Cody) of Marion, IL, Timothy Crow (and fiancé Averi Cherry) of Evansville, IN, Madison Blair (and husband Ty) of Salem, KY, Reghan Nelson of Benton, IL, and Alyssa Nelson of New Haven, IL; 3 great-grandchildren Abigail Moake, Ellie Moake, and Hadley Blair; a brother Ralph Nelson (and significant other Joyce Palmer), 2 brothers-in-law Richard Sanders (and wife Jane) and Clay Sanders (and wife Gaila), and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gifford & Eunice Nelson, a brother Charles Nelson, and 4 sisters Rosalie Lovan, Doris Vaughn, Verla Duckworth, and Ruth Fox.

Funeral services for Dallas Dean Nelson will be held at 12 p.m. on Friday, May 24, 2024, at Christian Chapel Church in McLeansboro with Pastor Jacob Gray officiating. Visitation will be held Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 12 p.m.  Interment will follow the funeral service at Old Springer Cemetery at Blairsville.
