JCSO Dispatcher Talks Passerby through CPR on Car Crash Victim

JEFFERSON COUNTY (WMIX) – A passerby is being recognized for stopping to help save the life of a person trapped under a vehicle in a water-filled ditch following a one-vehicle crash Tuesday morning in Jefferson County.

According to the sheriff’s department, dispatch received a call around 9:20 a.m. Tuesday from the scene of the crash on Route 37.

A passenger in the vehicle, 32-year-old Jamie Carroll of Mt. Vernon, was reportedly unconscious and trapped under the vehicle in a water-filled ditch.

The telecommunications officer was able to talk the passerby through administering CPR and restore Carroll’s breathing.

Jefferson Rural Fire arrived and ultimately transported her to SSM Health Good Samaritan Hospital in Mt. Vernon before she was airlifted by medical helicopter to a St. Louis Hospital.

The driver of the car, 24-year-old Dylan Bishop, also of Mt. Vernon, was not injured in the crash but was taken into custody on charges of Driving Under the Influence and Improper Lane Usage.
