Carbondale Man Wanted for Mid-April Shooting Now Faces More Charges after Weekend Arrest

CARBONDALE – A Carbondale man wanted on a Jackson County arrest warrant stemming from a shooting last month in Carbondale is now in custody and facing more charges after being involved in a disturbance in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in Carbondale Sunday night.

Carbondale Police say officers responded to the scene at 10 p.m. and began investigating. They learned that one individual fled and was apprehended after a brief foot chase. The suspect was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm.

The suspect, 21-year-old Ambrose N. Godsey of Carbondale, did not possess a Firearm Owners Identification Card and was found to be wanted on a Jackson County arrest warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon stemming from a shooting incident in Carbondale on Wednesday, April 17.

Godsey was arrested for the warrant and charged with additional charges of Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Ammunition, Resisting/Obstructing a Peace Officer and Firearm Owners Identification Card Required.  

Godsey was lodged in the Jackson County Jail. 

Around 10:20 p.m. on April 17, Carbondale Police responded to the area of South Poplar Street and West Freeman Street after multiple reports of shots fired. The suspects fled the area prior to officers arriving. Officers learned there were no injuries as a result of the incident, but there was damage to a building as a result of the shots fired.

During the course of the investigation, officers learned two black males were seen running westbound on West Freeman Street from the area during the incident. One suspect was wearing all dark clothing and the other suspect was wearing a light-colored sweatshirt.

Police say both incidents remain under investigation.
