Several Southern Illinois Communities to Receive State Funding for Housing Rehabilitation

SPRINGFIELD – Several communities in our area are slated to receive part of nearly $9 million in a Community Development Block Grant for Housing Rehabilitation.

According to the Illinois Department of Commerce & Economic Opportunity, The villages of Carrier Mills and Hanaford and the cities of Mt. Vernon, Orient, and Zeigler will all receive $650,000 while the Village of Goreville will get $539,000.

Housing rehabilitation grants are designed to assist low-to-moderate income homeowners with improvements to ensure safe and sanitary living conditions.

Eligible uses of funds include structural work, electrical, plumbing, new appliances, flooring, ADA, and accessibility accommodations, and more. Awards for local governments range from $539,000 to $650,000, with up to $60,000 available for each home.
