CARMI – Carmi Police arrested a Fairfield man Monday for retail theft from Tractor Supply along with multiple drug charges.
According to a Carmi Police report, the theft happened on Sunday, and after getting video footage, a Carmi officer recognized 40-year-old Edward A. Riley as the suspect.
After being placed under arrest, Riley attempted to swallow a plastic baggie of methamphetamine and fentanyl during transport.
As a result Riley was charged with Felony Obstruction of Justice. He was also charged with Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Felony Possession of a Controlled Substance, Misdemeanor Retail Theft, Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Felony Unlawful Use of Property. He’s being held in the White County Jail with no bail.
Some of the stolen merchandise from Tractor Supply was recovered from Riley’s person.
