Three Arrested after Gun, Illegal Drugs Found at Herrin Traffic Stop

HERRIN – Three people were recently cited after a gun, meth, cannabis, and drug paraphernalia were found in a vehicle Williamson County Sheriff’s deputies stopped following a pursuit after they noticed the vehicle commit a traffic violation near the intersection of Illinois 148 and Herrin Road.

According to the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office, Brandon T. Elders was cited for Possession of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Failure to Signal When Required; Brandon S. Partee was cited for Possession of Cannabis and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Tiffany M. Barnes was cited for Possession of Methamphetamine. They were taken to and lodged in the Williamson County Jail.

Around 11:25 p.m. on Dec. 17, deputies saw the vehicle the trio were in commit the traffic violation and tried to stop it. However, the vehicle failed to stop and continued traveling until it came to rest at a home in the 700 block of North 14th Street in Herrin.

Deputies identified the driver as Elders, who was known to deputies from prior law enforcement contact. Deputies saw Elders had a loss of small motor functions as he attempted to retrieve his identification from his wallet as well as a pronounced shaking and trembling of his hands.

During the traffic stop, a K9 arrived on scene and conducted a free air sniff which resulted in a positive alert to the odor of narcotics.

Barnes and Partee were passengers inside the vehicle. They were known to deputies from prior law enforcement contact.

Deputies conducted a probable cause search of the vehicle and located a digital scale with residue which later field tested positive for methamphetamine, a holster for a handgun, three jars containing cannabis, a second digital scale, a Silver Sig Sauer P320 9mm handgun, and two smoking devices with residue which later field tested positive for methamphetamine.

A female Deputy conducted a search of Barnes which resulted in the recovery of a bag of methamphetamine from her person.

A check of Elder’s criminal history at the time of the stop confirmed him to be a convicted felon.

The trio were then all cited and taken to jail.
