MARION – IDOT announced Monday that demolition of the bridge carrying Grassy Road over I-57 south of Marion will require both directions of I-57 to be closed to all traffic between exits 45 and 54 starting Sunday night at 7, weather permitting. All lanes will reopen by 7 a.m. Monday.
The northbound on-ramps at Old Illinois 13 and Illinois 13 will remain open.
During that time, a marked detour will be in place to direct northbound and southbound traffic around the work zone between exits 45 and 54. The detour will utilize Illinois 13 and Illinois 148 in both directions.
Drivers are urged to pay close attention to flaggers and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits and be on the alert for workers and equipment. Public transportation and traveling during non-peak hours are recommended if possible.
