WEST FRANKFORT – John Michael Calcaterra, 79, of West Frankfort, Illinois passed away Thursday, October 19, 2023, at Stonebridge Senior Living Center in Benton, Illinois at 8 p.m.
John was born April 13, 1944, in West Frankfort to Frank Sr. and Lucille (Nizzi) Calcaterra. John was a member of St. John’s Catholic Church and occasionally attended Third Baptist Church with his wife and he also served in the Army National Guard for eight years. He was the owner/operator of Calcaterra Service for many years. John and his good friends would sit in the station and solve all of the world problems. He loved the Cardinals, bowling, and walking. John loved his family especially his grandchildren. John married his high school sweetheart, Brenda Jackson, on February 26, 1966 and she survives.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Frankie Calcaterra; mother and father-in-law Lloyd and Rena Jackson; sisters-in-law Susan Calcaterra and Doris Gore.
John is survived by his wife Brenda Calcaterra; daughter Jena (Mike) Yadro; sons John (Holly) Calcaterra and Jarrod (Amy) Calcaterra; brother-in-law Gene Jackson; grandchildren Mia, Anthony, Gabriella, Garrett, Brooklynn, and Emma; several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 22, 2023, at Union Funeral Home in West Frankfort, Illinois with Minister Luke Wilson officiating. Burial will be in the St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in West Frankfort, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 12-2 p.m. prior to the service.
Memorials may be made to Stonebridge Senior Living Center or to Third Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available and accepted at the funeral home.
