CARBONDALE – A male juvenile was arrested on a warrant late Saturday night charging him in connection with the late Thursday night shooting and vehicle theft in the 900 block of West McDaniel Street in Carbondale.
According to Carbondale Police, during their investigation detectives were able to identify a male juvenile from Carbondale as a suspect in the incident. With the assistance of the Jackson County State’s Attorney, detectives obtained an arrest warrant for the juvenile charging them with Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking, Vehicular Hijacking, and Unlawful Possession of a Stolen Vehicle.
Detectives coordinated with the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office and the Illinois State Police at 10:15 p.m. Saturday to arrest the juvenile on the warrant without incident during a traffic stop in Williamson County.
Information obtained in the course of the investigation led to the discovery of the stolen Jeep in the 400 block of North Oakland Avenue that same evening. The juvenile was incarcerated on the warrant, pending a hearing. The victim has been released from the hospital.
Officers responded to the 900 block of West McDaniel Street at 11 p.m. last Thursday regarding a man who had been shot. They found him with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.
The victim reported that he was stopped in his vehicle talking to a black male he did not know when the male shot him through a car window. The victim got out of his vehicle, a gray Jeep Cherokee, at which time the suspect entered the vehicle and fled the area.
The public’s assistance in this ongoing investigation is appreciated. The case remains active and ongoing.
