Senate Passes Bill Keeping Non-working Solar Panels, Wind Turbines Out of Illinois Landfills

SPRINGFIELD – Bipartisan legislation sponsored by State Senator Dale Fowler (R-Harrisburg), Senate Bill 1160, passed Thursday. It deals with how Illinois will deal with solar panels and wind turbines that are no longer able to function.
Fowler says this bill encourages the current Renewable Energy Recycling Task Force that was established by law last year to do a study to be able to keep our solar panels and wind turbine blades out of landfills for future purposes of recycling. Fowler says this is a step forward in the recycling process.

As for a report about recycling, Fowler says the current task force that is in place now will have to issue their report by 2025.

Fowler thanked State Senator David Koehler (D-Peoria) for working with him on this legislation.
The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and now moves to the House for consideration with hopes that Governor JB Pritzker will sign it into law.
