Brookport Bridge Back Open Following Truck Crash Tuesday

BROOKPORT – The U.S. 45 Ohio River “Brookport” Bridge between Paducah and Brookport reopened to traffic after being blocked by a truck crash Tuesday afternoon.
According to the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet in Paducah, initial reports indicated a small dump truck attempted to cross the bridge, striking the truss. When deputies arrived at the site, they found it was a flat-bed truck that struck the bridge guardrail near the curve on the Illinois end of the structure – knocking the bed off the truck. The impact also knocked a trailer loose from the truck.
KYTC bridge inspectors conducted a safety inspection. Damage appeared to be limited to guardrail along the bridge deck.
Special thanks to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Department, Massac County Sheriff, and the City of Brookport for a quick response effort to remove the truck, allowing the bridge to reopen fairly quickly.
