Well-being Check in Mt. Vernon Ends with Two Arrests on Various Offenses

MT. VERNON – A 38-year-old Mt. Vernon man was charged Monday in Jefferson County Court with being an armed habitual criminal after sheriff’s deputies conducted a well-being check early Sunday morning in the 15000 block of East Reed Road in Mt. Vernon.
Brandon L. Stallings was formally charged Monday with three Class X felony charges of being an armed habitual criminal.
Stallings’ arrest came Sunday when the Jefferson County Sheriff’s deputies, while conducting a well-being check, reportedly saw evidence of a convicted felon being in possession of firearms.
Detectives obtained a search warrant for the home and reportedly recovered evidence including firearms and ammunition.
During the investigation, it was discovered Stallings was wanted for the charge of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Officers with the Mt. Vernon Police Department located Stallings in his vehicle on the parking lot of the Willow Springs apartment complex.
Stallings was taken into custody and contraband was reportedly observed in plain view in his vehicle.
A search of the vehicle allegedly resulted in the recovery of illegal controlled substances, a handgun and ammunition.
A passenger in the vehicle, 35-year-old Nicole R. Turney of Mt. Vernon, was also taken into custody during at the time.
Stallings and Turney were both taken to the Jefferson County Jail.
Turney was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance. Stallings was arrested for Possession of a Firearm by a Felon.
Stallings is scheduled to appear in court Feb. 28 for a preliminary hearing and first appearance with a court-appointed attorney.
